We are Zapiens, a
startup. Actually, no, we’re a company that has been building collaborative brains in large companies and organisations. We work with esteemed clients like Vodafone, Arcelor, DB, Iberostar, … and there are even more very interesting collaborations – though if I told you I would have to kill you! NDA stuff, you know, 😀
Our central office is on the outskirts of Oviedo, in a chalet with orchards, Freeda (our German Shepherd) and a lovely environment in the heart of the incredible region of Asturias. The product team works from here, although we are very much into the DHH and Jason Fried, so we firmly believe:
Zapiens is made up of 30 amazing individuals and organized into 2 fundamental areas: Business and Product. Approximately, half of us are dedicated to our product. If you have ever worked, or you are currently working in consulting and have not had the opportunity to make a product, it is something that is very cool. Basically you listen to many opinions, prioritize, prototype, launch a version and then listen again to what the users think about what you’ve created. Nothing in common with consultancy frankly!
On the product team (around 12 people), 2 are dedicated full-time to research and data, Max and Jose. They work remotely (Madrid, Asturias) so if you join us and live in Kiev that’s just fine as long as you have a good internet connection and, at least 4 hours of overlapping time with our time zone.
While reading “Data Scientist” descriptions there is always a lot of uncertainty. Sometimes they tell you something and then you spend 12 months doing basic statistics, SQL queries or a few regressions. A bit like Groundhog Day…
Our main problem on the table to solve is called Question Answering, in other words, we need to get answers to questions that come from our users through our chatbot. We currently have a customized solution that integrates fsm, svm, nlp and search but we are working on a more ambitious vision that includes Linked Data and surely the latest advances in Deep Learning through models such as BERT or similar.
Additionaly you will work on modeling and visualization problems related to skills profiling inside organizations, in other words, talent and expertise detection.
We hope you can lead our mini data team, help us grow hiring more international talent in the near future, implement a predictable workflow and generally speaking bring your NLP expertise with you to make Zapiens a completely unique product!
If you like ordered lists, here’s a summary:
The opportunity to redefine workforce collaboration and make an impact on the future of work. For better or worse, we will be solely responsible for our success without external interruptions or stupid bureaucracy.
A fantastic working environment, a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement without sacrificing your life or bullshit that is not sustainable in the long term. A very flexible schedule, 100% remote friendly, or in some cases, with reduced working hours to adapt to your personal needs.
The salary depends on your profile, we know that good talent is well-paid and, although surely there are companies that pay more, if you are worth it we will surely find an adequate offer including shares in the company.
Easy, write to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and tell me something about yourself, with your CV, stackoverflow, github, papers or something you think is cool. If you have not been able to do anything open-source do not suffer, tell us what can you bring and why you would like to come with us and that’s it.
The process will be quite simple:
I don’t think I have forgotten anything, but if you think something is unclear, just ask!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
